Ramping Controls
The Ramping Controls parameter list is one of the EC Parameter Groups available in the Check Parameters and Scan views for Electrochemistry modes. Although this list is available for all modes, the specific options on the list and the ideal settings will change depending on the microscope type and imaging mode.
E
- The potential applied between the working electrode and the reference electrode:
E = Vsample – Vreference electrode
- Range or Settings: –10 V through +10 V
NOTE: E is not accessible in the Galvanostat mode, because in that mode, the electrochemical cell current controls E.
Cell Current
- In the Galvanostat mode, this parameter displays the electrochemical cell current
- Range or Settings: 100 nA to 100 mA, depending on the current range setting of the bipotentiostat.
NOTE: Not accessible in the Potentiostat mode.
Ramp Rate
- The rate at which potential/current is ramped
- Range or Settings:
- 0.1 through 1000 mV/s (Potentiostat mode)
- 0.1 through 1.0 of the Current sensitivity (Galvanostat mode)
NOTE: A
Potentio Menu List item (
Hold,
Increase,
Decrease,
CV Increase,
CV Decrease) must be selected for the ramp to be placed on the electrodes in either
Potentiostat or
Galvanostat mode.
Ramp max
- Indicates the maximum of the ramp potential applied to the electrodes
- When the ramped electrode attains a potential above this setting, the ramp either stops or reverses direction.
- Range or Settings:
- In Potentiostat mode: –10 V through +10 V (must be greater than Ramp min)
- In Galvanostat mode: ± 100% of the Current Range (must be greater than Ramp min)
NOTE:
- The Increase/Decrease or the CV Increase/Decrease command must be selected from the Potentio Menu List to start the ramp.
- When Increase or Decrease is selected from the Potentio menu list, the ramped voltage or current stays constant after attaining its limit. When Cyclic Voltametry (CV) Increase or CV Decrease is selected, the ramp reverses direction when Ramp Max is reached.
Ramp min
- Indicates the minimum of the ramp potential applied to the electrodes in the Potentiostat mode or the minimum of the ramp current in the Galvanostat mode.
- When the ramped electrode reaches this setting, the ramp either stops or reverses direction.
- Range or Settings:
- In Potentiostat mode: –10 V through +10 V (must be less than Ramp max)
- In Galvanostat mode: ± 100% of the Current Range (must be less than Ramp max)
Sample Rate
- The rate at which electrochemical data is read and recorded from the electrochemical cell
- Range or Settings: 0.1 to 5 kHz
NOTE: 62,254 data points can be stored. For instance, 10 Hz provides data for 100 minutes. Beyond that, only the last 60,000 data points will be saved.
